So Elias was supposed to go to Boston Monday night and then return tonight but nooooo... he accidentally booked his ticket so he would come back on July 20th instead! We got him a return flight for tomorrow afternoon now but I am left alone to my own devices once again. I don't know what to do in this big apartment all by myself. I never thought 800 square feet would ever feel so large. I miss Elias. What a sap.
My dad is also 2.3 miles away from me or a 6 minute drive or a 30 minute walk and he can't see me. Why you might ask? Because he has to work and is forbidden from any work-life balance until Thursday when his Microsoft convention is completo. Bah. Alone again.
I suppose the upside to all of this craziness is that I am writing in the blog again. I have some moments to catch up on Alaina time which I don't seem to ever get these days since I am still wrapped up in the newness of my no longer long-distance relationship - we have time to make up for ya know! haha.
Anyway I am just crabbing because I am lonely. Tomorrow my Auntie Camille, my Ma and Elias all get in around 130PM and I am picking all of their asses up with tears of joy! I can't wait to see them. :'D I am so overjoyed with the fact that my boss is letting me take off at 2:30! YES!
Well this lonely widow is off to an early sleep.

A story of what the heck we are doing because sometimes we feel so disconnected from the ones we love.

Splendid Sunday
I love sleeping in until 930 on Sundays. It doesn't always happen on Saturdays, too used to getting up early but by Sunday my body is more acclimated to a long sleep into the later hours of the morning. Nice.
Today we moseyed around the house until we decided to use our Groupon at a local Creperie. For those of you unfamiliar with the term "Groupon" you need to look this up. There are daily deals for anything from pole dancing to kayaking to food for cheap... or at least cheaper. And these are in multiple cities not just Seattle. Anywho Elias and I typically get the food ones since we love the gracious gift of gluttony.
So back to the Crepe shop. It was a quaint place called Anita's Crepe Shop located on the edge of a funky neighborhood called Fremont. There was a little bit of a wait so we took off to explore the streets of a local residential area. The houses here remind me somewhat of the houses in downtown Saint Paul. There is a lot of craftsmen style and a lot of them are small, located on small lots and have bounds of flowers, vegetables, plants and trees growing from every imaginable spot of land. We even saw some chickens happily pecking at the ground without any limits to where they could wander (no fences!), we're talking about the real deal here people: free range, fat, happy chickens. After contemplating the idea of one day owning chickens myself I decided I would throw my veg ways out the door and eat meat but then after more contemplation, no... I would eat all of their eggs and keep the animal as long as it lived.
We eventually made our way back to the crepe shop where we indulged in a Mimosa, Bloody Mary and two deliciously prepared crepes. Mine was a salty farmer's cheese, spinach and an easy over egg all wrapped up in a warm wheat crepe served with a mixed greens salad topped with great northern beans and a balsamic reduction. Elias had a raspberry crepe with sausage (he has to get his meat fix when he can) on the side and some over medium eggs. It was great eats. Oh so the funny part is that we went to the wrong crepe shop for the Groupon we had. So we were trying to spend enough money to make our deal worthwhile and it turned out we had to pay full price. bah.
Afterwards we took off to the overly crowded Ballard farmers market where we managed to grab up the last bits of produce and some way too dense bread. It made for a good late lunch though. Elias had never had collard greens so it was fun to introduce him to something new.
Oh... dudes... I have to tell you all about the deliciousness of the last two nights though. Friday night we went to Alki Beach which is in the West Seattle neighborhood. It is across the water from downtown Seattle and has spectacular views of the city and the water. Amazing. It was quite romantic, made me feel like I was on a vacation for just a night. There were groups of young troublemakers on the beach standing around fire pits, reminded me of high school when we would have bonfires at Leine's house. Last night we went to this amazing German pub with all kinds of legit German beers. People this place was great. They had spatzle that tasted like mac n' cheese and weinerschnitzle served with pickled red cabbage. Oh you all need to come and visit me so I can take you on an adventure through the food finds we have located so far. Everyone I meet I ask: where is the best food? What is your favorite thing on the menu? How long have you lived here? :) haha... true story.
Well per the request of Kristen, I will post some pics of our place:

Well per the request of Kristen, I will post some pics of our place:
This is our bathroom. We have since removed the brown rug and replaced it with a wooden rug, cool. We also got some decorative towels and are trying to hang some shelves but are having some difficulties with the screws. Target screws are cheap!
This is down the hall from the bathroom. We found this one-of-a-kind painting on Craiglist. Well, actually we found our dresser there and they said they had to get rid of everything in their house so I asked about the painting and I took it.
Part of our library of books. Most of which we have not read. :)
UPDATE: Elias would like me to retract the above statement and replace it with: Part of our library of books. All of which have been read by him.

My beautiful pantry. I mean this thing goes out to the left and to the right from what you can see. It is huge which makes it nice for cooking. Also check out our wonderful wine collection.
Our living room. We now have a big cross over our window to pay homage to Elias' Mexican heritage. ;)
The view from our living room window out on the street. If you squint you can see Lake Union to the left of the white building toward the background. Yes, we have a coveted view from our humble abode.
Me cooking as usual. Our kitchen is really pretty big which is AWESOME!! We have converted what should be our dining space into our office but there is a dining room table behind Elias that is not posted in any of these pics.
Yes that is the space needle from our window. It really does look farther away in this picture than it is. Oh also, our cars are in this picture. The red truck is Rosalinda (Elias') and the silver corolla is Sammy Sveto (mine).
Taking a walk to the hardware store.

Tax Day
So apparently my taxes are due tomorrow. Who knew?! I better get going on them.
But first I will waste some time. So last night I decided to recreate this delicious slaw we had at the Fremont Market from the big, silver PIG mobile that was served with a somewhat equally delicious veggie sandwich. But this slaw had tang, sweetness, spice and texture. TSST. And then some yumm....
So this is what I came up with:
1 head of cabbage, chopped/shredded
1 bundle of radishes, slivered into small pieces
1 small bundle of cilantro, chopped (~1-1.5 cups)
3-4 T toasted sesame seeds
Zest of two small lemons and 1 small lime
Juice of two small lemons and 1 small lime
Splash of red wine vinegar
Couple splashes of apple cider vinegar
Couple sprinkles of cayenne
A good pour of soy sauce
3-4T extra virgin olive oil
Squeeze of honey
Salt & Pepper to taste
And oh yes, it was good. So I made this last night and it made a pretty big batch. It is now gone. Yes, we are the offical piggy noshers!!
Here is a pic of the creation...
Well that is all I got for now. I have to go do my taxes.

An Introduction
The time has come to write and share.
So I did it. I went running for the first time on my own since Elias and I moved in together. For some reason running on my own freaks me out in the big city. There is this HUGE staircase just a couple blocks up the street that connects Eastlake to Capitol Hill (two neighborhoods within Seattle). I counted 343 steps. I conquered it 4 times. I would be lying if I said I went up and down the whole thing with any ease. Holy crap I am out of shape to say the least!
Elias and I talked about running the Rock N' Roll Marathon coming up here in Seattle but I think not. Exercising has been a low priority since I moved to the rainy Emerald City. On another note, do you know that everything here in Seattle is ridiculously more expensive? I don't know if I look at price tags these days with a more practical eye since recently being almost completely severed from the umbilical of my parents funds. I tell ya, I don't know what I would do without craiglist.com and The Goodwill. To put this into perspective with my old, mall-going, consumer-minded self - I have only been to the mall ~4 times since I moved here. This is likely a good thing. Just an inkling of another identity crisis being in a new town with new people and new interests.
Ya know... the first entry on a new blog is always a toughie.
So as Mondays typically follow weekends I will indulge on our weekend excursions. Every Friday I look forward to the goodies that the night and following two days off of work will bring. So in my old age of 25 and Elias' of 27 we have discovered the romantic joys of Nova and PBS specials on a Friday night. Of course a bottle of wine was present and some food (OF course! ;)) making the experience one with gastronomic delights. We watched a story about how humans interact with their cats and/or dogs. We were both in tears. Which moves me right along to the next show that we watched, "The Girl who Cried Tears of Blood." I recommend them both.
Saturday I got my hair done, Elias and I went for a walk in the sculpture gardens in down town Seattle, walked through World Market and to our disappointment found nothing, and then headed to our friends place down the way for some dinner: Macadamia Encrusted Mahi Mahi with basil infused white rice and sautéed asparagus. Delish. We didn't get home until 130AM. Can I tell you the effects a late night has on an old lady?! I am still feeling the effects today. Back to the first topic at hand, I need to exercise more because Monday (that is a good 24 hours after the late night incident) came rough when that alarm clock rang at 7AM. uffdah!
Sunday was filled with sunshine and time spent with Shaun and his little girl Caela. What a fricken' cutie but beware she is full of energy and sass. She has "Hippie Child" written all over her, check it out...

We went to the Fremont Market and everyone was commenting on her fashion sense, "I love those red cowboy boots!" I give her the cred because this little fashionista put this outfit together on her own. She is pretty tough too. She got a clawed by a big, ugly black cat she tried to pet at a bookstore we visited. She let out a wimper but then went right back to wanting to pet every furry creature in sight only with her dad pulling her back saying one animal attack a day is good enough for pops.
Well. That was the weekend folks. Monday brings work and long hours inside the dungeon.
